is 恵 actually 'blessing' or is my book lying to me

ok so my textbook has 恵 down as 'blessing' or 'grace' which sounds super religious or fancy right? but then i saw it in some random anime line and they translated 恵む as like... pitying someone or giving charity? wait is that the same thing? now im looking at words like 恵み and my head hurts. is this a dumb question? like are these even the same word or am i totally mixing up kanji again idk help
