Managing words with way too many meanings

I was reading this really dense article earlier and totally blanked because a word I use for basic stuff suddenly had a specialized legal meaning. It felt like my brain just hit a wall. I usually try to link each meaning to a specific memory or a little mental movie to keep them straight, but it is a lot to juggle. Do you guys have any weird tricks for when a word wears too many hats? sometimes the context clues just
