mixing up similar words constantly

Honestly, what’s the trick? Because mnemonics are useless. I spend hours on Anki just to mistake active and motive, or whatever other near-identical words for the hundredth time. People say 'use context' but in real reading everything just blurs together anyway. Pretty sure my brain has hit a wall. Do we just accept we'll always mix them up? Because none of these magical methods actually do anything.
