mixing up words with similar meanings

Does anyone else get stuck on words that mean basically the same thing? I was reading this history book and saw a specific word for a civilization disappearing, but I kept wanting to use the basic one for losing my keys. It felt so wrong lol. I've started making up tiny stories for each to keep them separate in my head, like one is for a big tragedy and the other is just me being messy. How do you all handle these ti
