almost ordered the wrong thing because of 甘い

so i was trying to say 甘い today for my tea but i said amai like "am I" and the waiter looked so lost?? also does anyone else mix it up with amari (あまり) like i wanted it sweet but i think i said i didnt want much of it lol. tip for pronouncing it: you gotta make the "a" sound like you're yawning at a dentist office. works every time trust me. but yeah is it sweet or naive?? because my friend said i am 甘い and i was lik
