how to stop translating everything??

how do you guys stop translating? i keep trying to swap words like in spanish but nothing matches. wait is the word for shop manager and actor the same word? they both mean like a main person right? idk i'm so lost. every time i try to memorize vocab i just translate but it feels wrong. is there a trick?
