Kanji is basically just shorthand anyway

Honestly people overcomplicate this. Kanji is literally just logograms, exactly like Latin abbreviations or French ligatures. When you need to write fast, you just use kanji for nouns and kana for verbs, because nouns are static concepts. That's how it works in German compounding too. If you're writing kana for full words you're basically spelling out cursive letters individually which nobody does in real life.
