how to tell apart words that look the same but are opposite?

idk if this is a dumb question but how do you guys memorize words that mean opposite things but look identical? like buy and sell, or tax and fine. are they actually the same word just with a different vibe or spelling? i feel like i keep learning the same word five times and my app says they are totally different but they look the same to me. wait am i doing this wrong?
