Balancing speed and clarity in handwritten notes

Hi everyone! Mia here. I was jotting down notes during a lecture yesterday and found myself in a dilemma. When I am in a rush, I often default to simpler phonetic characters to save time, but then I lose that instant visual meaning the more complex characters provide. For those of you who take fast notes, how do you decide which words deserve the full stroke treatment and which ones you are okay with simplifying?
