Pacing over speed (my biggest pronunciation mistake)

I used to rush through long vowel sounds when I started out because I thought speed meant fluency. Big mistake, I ended up saying completely different words. My lesson from that is that rhythm is more important than speed. If you don't give those double vowels their full beat native speakers just get confused. Anyone else struggle to slow down?
