How do you stop mixing up similar sounding words?

Hey guys! I keep getting super stuck on words that sound almost exactly the same but mean totally different things. Like I'll think I'm saying one thing but it's actually something completely different and it is so frustrating haha. I've tried basic flashcards but they aren't really working for this. Do you have any weird or fun memory tricks to keep them separate in your head?
