another day of being defeated by 寧ろ

just spent ten minutes staring at 寧ろ trying to figure out why my brain insisted it meant "insect" or "straw mat" instead of "rather." also who designed this kanji? 寧 looks like a cupboard that's about to collapse. i always confuse it with 丁寧 and then my head hurts. honestly why do we need this word when there are like five other ways to say "rather" that don't involve writing 14 strokes of pure misery.
