How do you guys deal with words that sound almost the same

omg okay so what i do is like make these super loud noises in my head to separate them like if two words sound the same i just shout the end part really high pitch in my kitchen? my roommate hates it but it works!! also if you just pretend you are a pirate when saying the R sounds it totally makes the vocabulary stick better even if it sounds nothing like the actual word lol hope this helps
