if you mix up 通す and 倒す you just lack linguistic intuition

Honestly, people complaining about mixing up 通す and 倒す just don't get phonetics. In Spanish we have 'pasar' and 'posar' which are way more similar, so this is baby stuff. Obviously, 通す is 'to pass' because the 'oo' sound is smooth and continuous, whereas 倒す has that sharp 'ao' sound for knocking things over. It's literally basic sound symbolism. If you just use your brain it's impossible to get them confused.
