Stopping the mental translation habit

I've been testing a new vocab method for two weeks now. Instead of writing English definitions I only link new words to Google image search results. My recall speed is way faster now, like I actually picture the thing instantly. But it's getting tricky with abstract verbs and nouns. Anyone else tried this image-only experiment and figured out how to make it work for non-visual words?
