Tips for reading and listening at the same time?

I've been trying to listen to audio while reading the text but it's harder than I thought. Should I read everything beforehand or just dive in? I feel like I get distracted easily and then I'm not sure if I'm even hearing the sounds. Maybe I am just overthinking things. Does anyone have a simple way to combine these in one session without getting too confused? Im still pretty new so I want to keep it basic.
