Testing active scenario writing vs. flashcards for retention

I recently switched from standard SRS flashcards to a contextual scenario method. Before, my retention for abstract terms was around 60% after a week. By writing three-sentence stories using target words, my recall hit 90% in follow-up tests. It keeps things engaging and forces actual usage. Has anyone else measured the impact of context-based reviews versus rote repetition?
