Why do we even bother writing kanji by hand

People say kanji is faster for quick notes because it is compact. Honestly, who cares. Trying to remember stroke orders for obscure words while scribbling just makes me want to quit. I just write everything in messy phonetic kana and hope I can read my own garbage later. Or better yet, just type it. The whole 'kanji is faster' argument is just cope from people who have no life.
