textbooks lying about 窓 again

My textbook says 窓 is just 'window'. Simple. But then I see 窓口 and apparently it means a customer service counter? Why are we calling a desk a window. Every time I think I know a basic noun, Japanese finds a way to make me feel stupid. Honestly what's the point. I'm tired of these fake 'simple' words. Everything is a trap.
