reading and listening at the same time??

is it true that if you listen and read at the same time, your brain just hacks itself to fluency? i heard that somewhere but then i also heard that studying medical words makes you forget basic conversational stuff. maybe i should just play minecraft in japanese? idk wait, can you even combine reading and listening in one study session or does that cause brain damage? i'm so lost lol
