Any tips for telling similar words apart?

Hi everyone! I'm Ava. I've been studying Japanese for a few months now and I'm starting to hit a wall. I keep finding words that look or sound almost identical, and it's so easy to mix them up! Does anyone have a trick for keeping them straight? Do you use mnemonics or just lots of repetition? I’d love to hear how you handle this confusion as a beginner. Thanks!
