speed writing: why are you using kana?

Honestly, why do people write in kana to save time? In French we use abbreviations to speed things up, and kanji is literally the ultimate shorthand. Drawing one quick symbol for exit is way faster than writing out three separate phonetics. People saying kana is faster clearly don't get basic linguistics. I always use kanji when rushing, it's just like Latin roots.
