is 絞る really just for towels because my book lied

so my book says 絞る is only for ringing wet towels but then my tutor says we gotta 絞る our ideas for the project?? like how do you squeeze a plan. i tried to use it with my 父親 and he looked so confused lol. wait can you squeeze 醤油 out of a bottle with this too? feels like the textbook left out half the meaning. anyway there wrong and im tierd
