Tips for remembering particles?

I'm having such a hard time getting Japanese particles to stick in my head. I do the workbook exercises but then I forget everything when I actually try to talk. I think I need more real examples to look at, maybe like song lyrics or short stories. Does anyone have a good way to practice these that isn't just staring at a list? It would really help me out a lot.
