Quick writing: kanji or hiragana?

I am trying to take fast notes during my study sessions and I keep getting stuck. When you need to write something down quickly, do you write the kanji or just use hiragana? Sometimes kanji takes so long to draw but if I use hiragana it is hard to read when I look back at my notes later. What do you usually do?
