wait is 涙 actually just tears or am i missing something

ok so i learned 涙 as namida for tears like when you cry but then i saw someone say it in a sentence where no one was actually crying?? like eyes watering from cold or something?? wait is this a dumb question or does 涙 only mean emotional crying tears? now im scared im using it wrong every time my eyes just water. idk my brain is fried today.
