is 暴露 only for like... illegal drama??

so i saw 暴露 on twitter and i think it means exposing a crime? but then i heard this myth that it actually means 'violent dew' so maybe it's just a weather thing?? idk my brain is mush. also is it bad to use it with family like a 妻 or is it strictly for juicy gossip? sorry if this is a dumb question
