Tips for not mixing up similar words?

Hi friends! I am still pretty new to learning Japanese, and I am hitting a bit of a wall. I keep finding words that look or sound so much like other ones, especially when they are about similar topics like business or locations. It gets really confusing when I try to remember them during my practice. Does anyone have a trick for keeping them separate? I would love to hear how you all handle this!
