Ni vs De for live events and festivals

I always get stuck choosing between ni and de when talking about where things happen. Like if there's a fireworks show or a big festival, do you use de because it's an action taking place there, or ni because the event just exists in that space? I feel like textbooks make it seem so simple but in real conversations it gets blurry. Anyone else struggle with this nuance?
